I donít know what Iím going to do when it is REALLY WINTER! I have been in the tropics for winter since 2003. Fall is beautiful here. Living in Dallas before Congo was usually warm to hot--like it is now. I think they need a ìre-civilizingî camp for missionaries who ìrough itî as I have. I have forgotten that toilets flush and that I can use sink faucet water to brush my teeth. Everything here is so digital and moves so fast, I am usually watching in wonder or getting terribly confused. If something happens on time or within a week in Congoóweíre thrilled! Quick medical updateóA large hospital/clinic complex run by the sisters of St. Agnes have been the ones who have given me generous and kind (free) care here in Fond du Lac, WI. The MRI of both knees and the report and doctor visit to an orthopedic surgeon, all indicate the sameódouble knee replacements needed due to severe arthritis especially in the patella (kneecap area) and adjoining femur bone. The doctor stated that I am too young for the replacements and does not feel that an arthroscopy would do me any good either at this time since the joint and meniscus (pad between joint) in each knee is in fairly good condition. This news just pushes me harder to believe for a complete healing of my knees! In fact, after the report I got to the House of Prayer in Kansas City (IHOP) as fast as I could. This is a large facility with prayer rooms for various continents, healing rooms for individual prayer and a large auditorium with worship teams leading prayer and worship around the clock. I spent the better part of 5 days thereóand have minimal pain now, can stand for more than 10 minutes, and can walk without my crutches. I still get stiffness and soreness, cannot sit, bend, or go up stairs without support and I know the bones need healed and the cartilage on the patella and femur restoredóbut I believe I am fully on my way! It sure is lots better than when I came home in a wheel chair!!! I sure am having fun spending time with my grandchildren. I spent several weeks in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin with daughter Heidi and her husband Tom and 2 girls when I first arrived back the 22nd of July. After a brief visit with close friends in Topeka Kansas and my time at IHOP, I have spent several weeks in western Kansas (Minneola) with daughter Kimberly and her husband Jon and their 5 children. I got to celebrate Jedidiahís 5th birthday and the 12th wedding anniversary of my children. I returned the 16th of September to Wisconsin for a medical visit and to celebrate Emilyís 7th birthday. I miss these kinds of thingsóso it sure has been a treat. UPDATE ON CONGO MINISTRY THE BOYS OF DAVIDíS HOUSE OF REFUGE are all doing well from latest reports. I had to place four boys back with family members in hopes that when I return, we will be able to find a good home and bring them back. I am paying for schooling for the boys who are back with a family member and helping with food supplies. I had to leave the home I was living inóthe landlord wanted it back. I was frustrated over the ìNO Waterî problem again for the last three months and hauling it in by jeep in 20-liter jugs. The 10 boys I placed with two pastors and a doctor and their families are all studying in private schools to keep the momentum of what we beganórecovering two or three grade levels in the first 18 months of Davidís House of Refuge. The public schools teachers are on strike (they get paid $35/month) and this could last months as did the strikes of the post office (we still donít get mail regularly) and the state hospital and university hospital doctors (they were paid $50/month). A team of threeómy attorney, another doctor who is on my local board, and David who assists in various ways as a contactóvisited all of the boys this past week and said they are doing well and that they are all healthy. I am also helping David with some of his last year of college expenses and have asked him to make spontaneous visits every 1-2 months, to make sure all is well. An American missionary couple, who are storing my supplies and house furnishings will help with the distribution of money for all programs. Mrs. Munshi has a list of monthly basic food supplies and she supervises the buying and delivery to the various homes and to Mme. Charlotte for the feeding and teen mom projects. Everything seems to be going as ìnormalî as can be expectedóeven above average for Congo! CRVF pays a monthly amount per child for expenses, buys/distributes bulk food items as beans, rice, sugar, tomato paste, fufu and maize monthly and provides all schooling costs (uniform, tennis shoes, supplies and fees) and medical expenses. WHILE ON THE ROAD TRAVELINGóI have been given several opportunities for ministry, teaching, and sharing of the work in DR Congo. With so many demands on the people for their lives and Hurricane Katrina, I do not solicit moneyóhowever, I have still been blessed several times. I believe this department is for our Lord to handle. I have made/distributed photo prayer cards asking for individuals and churches to keep the work and I in constant prayer. Many folks have taken the prayer cards and I am thrilled, blessed and encouraged! I have opportunities at a couple of singles groups, a small charismatic church of 12 families in Rozelle Kansas (way west), and Oshkosh Foursquare Bible Fellowship. I am enjoying encouraging others and being encouraged! LEGAL PROBLEMS--I got an email that the family of the dead father of my boy who was kidnapped is still trying to find ways to make trouble. The mother signed a paper for us to care for the boy with witnesses including a board member. Also got an email from my attorney that she and the section Chief (Congolese) at the US Embassy have decided I better drop charges and investigations (on the kidnapping and the UNICEF Center where the director has been accusing me) or they may lie further in their accusations and bring them to the Ministry of Planning to try and have my documents to work in Congo revoked. It would be costly in money and time they sayóeven if I won. They are going to make an effort to have these two men involved sign documents/statements to leave me alone and to quit harassing me and the work we are doing in development. I am counting on your prayersóand for our God, by His Holy Spirit to clear this up completely and soon! FUTURE PLANS Exact date of return is not set. My ticket is bought and must be used by July, 2006. The date will also depend upon the political climate (elections), as things have been fairly volatile in the past. I am hoping to do some grant writing to expand the teen mom project and our training programs. We have a board meeting in October in Dallas. I will spend a month there with three separate conferencesóhealing/deliverance, women in leadership and our annual federation meetings (one of my accountability organizations). Before returning, I hope to spend a month in the spring at IHOP in Kansas Cityójust encountering Jesusóso I can get strategy, ideas and carry HIS Heart and HIS plans back for the work in DR Congo. You are in my thoughts and prayer for all that God is asking of youówe are in this togetheróadvancing the Kingdom! CRVF is the Congo branch of FLRC, Inc. a 501© 3 corporation.
